SketchFest NYC has announced the schedule its third annual national sketch comedy festival.
The event, the only official SketchFest program on the East Coast, will feature more than 20 acclaimed comedy troupes from around the country.
Groups from Newfoundland, Portland, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Boston, and New York City are scheduled to participate in three days of non-stop performances. This year will also feature the festival's first Canadian comedy group.
Industry attendance in the past two years has included all three major networks as well as MTV, HBO, and Comedy Central.
The first SketchFest was held in Seattle in 1999. Today the festival has expanded to numerous cities, including Chicago, San Francisco, and Toronto.
SketchFest NYC is dedicated to promoting the art of sketch comedy, which varies from improvisation and stand-up, consisting instead of short written scenes that have been rehearsed and presented by a group that can range in size from two to 20.
All performances will be held at the East 13th Street Theater off Union Square.
