On Sunday, June 8, Union Square Park will be the home for the first of three upcoming 'Busking Bonanza' events scheduled this summer, all of which are sponsored by the Subjective Theatre Company. (The others will be July 20 and August 17.)
The free event allows 10-15 smaller theatre companies to showcase their current or upcoming off-off-Broadway shows with ten-minute performances. Shows sampled on Sunday will include "Fuse Festivale," "One More If You're Buying," and "Saint Scarlett." Subjective Theatre is also looking to use the open-air events to increase the audience base for off-off-Broadway fare in general.
The festivities will create a circus-like atmosphere: During scene transitions, a ringmaster will make announcements while clowns and a vaudeville band entertain. In addition to the playlets, buskers and other street performers take center stage.
The event will take place from 12:30-3 p.m. in Union Square. For more information or to sign up for the two remaining events, visit www.subjectivetheatre.org, click on Upcoming Projects and then on Busking Bonanza.
