TADA!, the not-for-profit company which presents original musical theatre performed by children for family audiences, is now accepting new one-act plays and musicals to be produced as part of its 1997 "Free Spring Staged Reading Series" and "New Play Project."
The grand prize-winner's entry will receive five performances with professionally designed sets, costumes, and lighting. Three other winning scripts will receive staged readings, and there will be cash prizes to each winning playwright.
At the discretion of TADA!'s artistic director, winning entries may also be eligible for publication and distribution--with royalties for the author--as part of the company's new Script Marketing Project, which involves standardization of the printed format of all TADA! shows, publication of a catalogue of the shows, and distribution of the catalogue. Scripts will be marketed to theatres, schools, camps, and other organizations nationwide.
Scripts and scores may be sent to TADA! at 120 W. 28th St., 2nd Fl., New York, NY 10001. The company prefers plays with roles for youth primarily between the ages of eight and 18. There may be no more than two or three adults in the cast (children do not play adults; adult actors will be hired).
Entries may be geared toward age-specific audiences, and plays dealing with current teen topics are highly encouraged. Works should be submitted with a character breakdown, set and costume requirements, and a self-addressed, stamped envelope (for return of script).
The deadline for submission is January 15, 1997. For further information, phone (212)
