Karen Kohlhaas
Karen Kohlhaas recently directed the Off-Broadway world premiere of Annie Baker's Body Awareness with JoBeth Williams, Peter Friedman, Mary McCann and Jonathan Clem for the Atlantic Theater Company.
Karen is a founding member of Atlantic, and a senior teacher at the Atlantic Acting School. She directed actress/comedienne Judy Gold in the critically and popularly acclaimed one woman show 25 Questions for a Jewish Mother, which ran Off-Broadway for six months at the St. Luke's Theatre and is now on a national tour.
Other Off-Broadway and regional productions include Harold Pinter's The Hothouse (Atlantic), Keith Reddin's Synergy (Alley Theatre, world premiere) and Frame 312 (Atlantic); David Mamet's Boston Marriage (Public Theater, NY premiere) and The Water Engine (Atlantic); three productions of An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein in New York and Sydney (world premiere) and Kate Moira Ryan's Otma (U.S. premiere). She has also directed for Naked Angels, Ensemble Studio Theatre, New Dramatists and many others.
Karen has taught monologue workshops in New York since 1993, and has been a guest teacher in New Jersey, Vancouver and Sydney. Her newest book is How to Choose a Monologue For Any Audition. Other books include The Monologue Audition: A Practical Guide For Actors (Limelight Editions) and The Monologue Audition Teacher's Manual. Karen is the director, writer and producer of The Monologue Audition Video (DVD).
