“The New Normal,” which is set to debut Sept. 11, will be cast by Susie Farris. Written by “Glee” alums Allison Adler and Ryan Murphy, who was the co-creator of the Fox series, the show centers on a gay couple (Andrew Rannells, of "The Book of Mormon," and Justin Bartha) who hire a surrogate played by Georgia King to help start a family. The series begins shooting in August. Farris also cast the show’s pilot.
Another new NBC comedy, “1600 Penn,” also retained its pilot’s casting director. Debra Zane is set to cast the series, which has yet to nail down a premiere or production start date. The series revolves around the hard-partying oldest son (Josh Gad, Rannells' co-star in “The Book of Mormon”) who moves back in with his politician father (Bill Pullman) and becomes a liability after he’s elected president. Jenna Elfman also stars as the first lady.
Both series are set to shoot in Los Angeles.
