As continuing recovery efforts aim to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy throughout the New York and New Jersey area, SAG-AFTRA members affected by the storm are getting their own support in the form of the new Superstorm Sandy Emergency Assistance Fund.
The Screen Actors Guild Foundation and the AFTRA Foundation announced the creation of the relief fund last week, in partnership with the SAG Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund and the Actors Fund. Actor and SAG Foundation board member Ron Perlman has now recorded a video message introducing the initiative.
“As you know, there are many victims still struggling in the wake of Hurricane Sandy,” Perlman says. “Some of them are your fellow artists.” Watch the video below:
The SAG Foundation, the SAG Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund, and the AFTRA Foundation have so far contributed more than $250,000 to the fund, which will provide emergency assistance grants to active SAG-AFTRA members in need. “But of course with more money, we could do even more to help,” Perlman says, adding, “Remember, if you need help, ask. If you can help, give. We’re all in this together.”
