Auditions are hard. Every actor knows that. But add kids to the mix, and you’ve got an even bigger hurdle. Luckily, Backstage has you covered with all the tips and expert advice you need for your child actor to nail his or her audition! Before long, you’ll be the “Audition Mom” (mini-van optional), and your child’s dreams of becoming an actor will be in reach! Follow the advice below on how child actors—and their parents—can best navigate the audition process.
Every good actor knows it’s all in the preparation, and the same goes for child actors! Before the audition, make sure your child actor knows his or her lines for the audition, has the perfect outfit for the audition, and has an up-to-date current photo or headshot for the audition. A first impression is everything so make sure your child actor makes the best one on the casting director at the audition.
Kids have no fear! Well, most kids, that is. Help your child conquer any nerves and walk into an audition with confidence. Don’t get sucked into all the parental gossip in the waiting room at the audition, and don’t compare your child to the other young actors. If your child walks into the audition room with confidence, nothing can stop them from winning the role!
Not every audition will land in a job, and just as rejection and waiting is difficult for all actors, it’s even more difficult to kids. Make sure you’re there to support your child actor after the audition and tell them how great they did at the audition! You are your child actor’s biggest fan, and your help and support before, during, and after the audition process is invaluable to your child’s success as an actor!
