The long-awaited Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” starring Timothée Chalamet, hits theaters Dec. 25. The film follows the great singer and songwriter’s life and is already getting Oscar buzz for Chalamet’s performance. If you’re feeling drawn to the music, we’ve compiled a list of other great music-related and biographical stage and screen projects that are casting today.

Axelrod Performing Arts Center 2025 Season

Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal, New Jersey, is now seeking actors for its 2025 season, including the Carole King biomusical “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical,” as well as “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” “Rock of Ages,” and more. Equity talent, aged 18 and older, is wanted for all productions. There will be principal auditions on Jan. 4 in Deal. Rehearsals for Beautiful: The Carole King Musical will begin on Feb. 24, with performances scheduled for March 14–April 6; all other productions will follow. Pay is $630 per week with health and pension provided.

“Catching the Stars”

Join the cast of “Catching the Stars,” a student film about a quick-witted young artist dreaming of a music career post-high school graduation, but the love she has for her co-dependent, abusive mother and her growing feelings for her childhood best friend threaten to prevent her. Three New York City or New Jersey-based actors, aged 18–45, are wanted for the lead roles of Alana, Blue, and Melissa. The actors playing Alana and Blue must be able to sing and play piano. Filming will take place between Jan. 24 and Feb. 2 and between March 15 and 22 in New Jersey (Fairfield and another location TBD). Pay is $200–$600 with meals, refreshments, and accommodations provided.

“Bob Marley Hope Road”

Five Currents is now seeking talent for “Bob Marley Hope Road,” an entertainment experience that will open in Spring 2025 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, uniting and celebrating Marley’s life and music. Production is currently seeking a wide variety of nationwide actors, dancers (including dancehall performers), and singers. Dancers must attend an open casting call, which will be held on select dates between Jan. 3 and 16 in NYC, Las Vegas, Miami, Burbank, Atlanta, and Chicago. Rehearsals will begin on April 28, followed by previews beginning June 4. Pay is $1,000 per week minimum for rehearsals and $1,600 per week minimum for performances for a one-year contract. Two weeks of paid housing and a relocation allowance will be provided.

“The Deal”

Ricky Burchell Studios is seeking talent for “The Deal,” a feature film set in the underbelly of the music industry about Ava, a young and talented singer, who finds herself drawn into a whirlwind of opportunity when she crosses paths with Renzo, a magnetic and commanding producer whose charm is as dangerous as it is irresistible. Actors, aged 18–60, are wanted for various roles in the film, including the starring roles of Ava and Renzo. Filming will take place on Jan. 5–16 in Nashville, Tennessee, and the surrounding areas. Pay is $100–-$200 per day for up to 12 days of work.

“Husker,” 1980s Concert Goers

Grant Wilfley Casting is continuing its search for talent for the upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic starring Jeremy Allen White. New York City and New Jersey-based talent, aged 18–34, is currently wanted to play 1980s concertgoers in background roles. There will be a fitting in Jersey City, followed by filming on Jan. 8 in East Rutherford. Pay is $176 for 10 hours of work.

“My Darling Ellroy”

Hamachi Picture House is currently casting talent for “My Darling Ellroy,” a short psychological thriller set against the backdrop of the jazz scene where a troubled composer’s creative struggles are intensified by the toxic dynamics with his bandleader, Conway, and the seductive singer Angelica. Three actor-musicians, aged 25–65, are wanted for the lead roles. Filming will take place in Spring 2025 in Santa Cruz, California. Pay is $300 for two days of work, with meals and travel provided.

“Trova,” Student Film

Casting is underway for “Trova,” a student film following the true story of Afro-Cuban singer María Teresa Vera and her long-awaited return to the musical stage. Two Latinx actor-musicians, aged 25 and older, are wanted to play the lead roles of María and Lorenzo Hierrezuelo. Spanish fluency is required. Filming will occur on Feb. 28–March 3 and March 7–9 in Orange, California. Pay is $125 per day with meals, copy, and credit provided.

“Cage In The Wild”

Casting is underway for “Cage In The Wild,” a feature drama about a young music sensation struggling to balance stifled creativity and fan expectations while creating his second album. Actors, aged 18–60, are wanted for various roles, including the lead female role of Winona, a quiet and ambitious musician looking for her shot. Talent will work in February in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Pay is $300–$600 for five days of work for the role of Winona. Two other roles will receive $50–$300, and all other roles will receive a profit share or are unpaid.
