How much experience do you need before an agent?
“Hi, I’m new here and don’t have a lot of experience, so this is for future reference. I’ve been reading lots of articles from the Backstage advice column and they say you should get some more experience before finding some representation. I’m not sure how much experience they want, though, like if they need a few commercials, get small parts in TV shows, or be an extra a thousand times. If you know how much or can give me an example that would be great!” —SUPERSTAR724
At-home recording for auditions?
“My agent said no headphones for auditions but I want exceptional voice quality without breaking the bank. Help!!” —1Actorwithnotech
30-second monologue?
“I have an audition where I have to do a 30-second TV/film monologue and I have a few questions.
“Is there any difference between a TV/film monologue and a play monologue besides the obvious? When an audition asks for a TV/film monologue, are they asking for something straight from a show/movie or just one with modern writing?
“I also can’t find many 30-second monologues even when I specifically search for it. Is it OK for the monologue to be a little bit over 30 seconds or should it be on the dot? Example: like, 37 seconds rather than 30. Thank you.” —nikecure
