It wasn’t long ago when Caitlyn A. Rodriguez decided she wanted to be a performer. One acting program and one student film later, she has tips for what newcomers should expect.
Push yourself only when it makes sense.
“As a person still very new to acting, my advice is: Take every opportunity as it comes to you. Don’t be afraid to try something new or uncomfortable. But, also, know your boundaries, and say no when you feel like that is the right response.”
Try your best—then move on to the next audition.
“I have learned that once I do an audition, I have to leave it behind. If I am the right person for the job, it will come to me.”
Supporting your peers costs nothing.
“I make acting connections by being positive, and I support my friends who are actors when they book a job. My only competition is myself, so I make it a point to support everyone around me in their successes.”
Give your auditions the time they deserve.
“I prepare for an audition by breaking down the character and seeing how I can put my own [stamp] on it. From there, I practice as much as possible.”
Find projects that personally appeal to you.
“I attended an acting program with Nikki Pederson Talent from 2020–21, and that inspired me to become an actor. As a young actor, I am now trying to gain experience and build my résumé by finding projects relevant to my own human experience.”
