The production of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir at the NoHo Arts Center swept the 12th Annual Artistic Director Achievement Awards held Mon., Nov. 21 at the Madrid Theatre in Canoga Park, Calif.
Ghost garnered six awards, followed by Ouroboros at The Road Theatre Company, The Big Voice...Merman or God? at Avery Schreiber Theatre, and The Author's Thumb at Theatre Unlimited with three awards each. Four other theatres each received a total of four awards: Avery Schreiber Theatre, Lonny Chapman Group Repertory Theatre, The Road Theatre Company and Theatre West.
Hosted by actor Fred Willard, the evening featured songs from this season's nominated musicals, including The Big Voice...God or Merman? performed by Jim Brochu and Steve Schalchlin, and special tap dance number from Theatre West's production of Nunsense featuring Betty Garrett in a spirited solo dance turn.
The ADA Awards are sponsored by the Valley Theatre League. This year's event was directed by Noel Britton and produced by Jon Berry of Woodland Hills Theatre and Nancy Bianconi of NoHoArtsDistrict.com
