Greenlit means a project is officially a go, so all you have to do is follow these leads to stay up to date. You never know where you’ll find an opportunity to land an audition!

“Almost Famous”
“Almost Famous” is almost a Broadway reality. Cameron Crowe’s semi-autobiographical film is getting a stage adaptation, featuring a book by Crowe, music and lyrics from Tom Kitt (“Next to Normal”), and directed by Jeremy Herrin (“People, Places and Things”). The movie’s soundtrack featured classic rock hits, so while the show will not be a jukebox musical with Kitt composing, it will certainly have a similar feel to the 2000 film. Casting and additional details about the musical have yet to be released, so you’ll have to keep your eyes on production news as we get closer to an opening, but especially on Broadway CD offices.

“Twenties”
The main cast for Lena Waithe’s upcoming “Twenties” has been locked down. Jonica T. Gibbs will play the lead role in the series, which will follow the adventures of a queer Black girl and her two straight best friends. Christina Elmore, Gabrielle Graham, and Sophina Brown will play the co-leads: her two best friends, Marie and Nia, and Ida B., a successful television executive, respectively. No casting director has been made public yet, but Waithe frequently works with Carmen Cuba. The series is casting now, so keep an eye on her door for future opportunities!

“The Editor”
Greg Berlanti is capitalizing on his recent multi-year first look feature deal with 20th Century Fox and his first project is underway. The company has optioned the Steven Rowley novel “The Editor,” with Berlanti tapped to direct. The novel and film revolve around an author and his world-famous editor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who buys the latest novel from the long-struggling writer and encourages him to write an authentic ending through his struggles. Berlanti, who is most recognizable for his work with the CW, such as “Supergirl,” “The Flash,” and other long-running shows, has been more involved lately on the film side, with his upcoming remake of “Little Shop of Horrors” and his recent directorial success, “Love, Simon.” Denise Chamian, Tara Feldstein, and Chase Paris were CDs on “Love, Simon,” though he usually uses David Rapaport and Lyndsey Baldasare on his TV projects so he has plenty of options for this flick and his future Fox features.

“High Fidelity”
The upcoming TV adaptation of “High Fidelity” has gotten a big lead. Zoe Kravitz has been cast in the lead role of the upcoming Disney streaming series. The series, inspired by Nick Hornby’s novel and the Touchstone film of the same name, will reimagine the story from a female perspective, keeping the character the same: the ultimate music fan and record store owner who’s obsessed with pop culture and Top Five lists. “Ugly Betty” writers Sarah Kucserka and Veronica West will be penning this series. Libby Goldstein and Junie Lowry-Johnson were casting directors on “Ugly Betty,” so it’s possible they could come over with Kucserka and West.

“Death on the Nile”
Following his recent adaptation of “Murder on the Orient Express, Kenneth Branagh is continuing his Agatha Christie adaptations with “Death on the Nile.” The story follows Poirot investigating a murder during a luxurious cruise on the Nile River that he is also on. And the feature has found its superstar from a super star: Gal Gadot. The actor, who is currently filming “Wonder Woman 1984,” will play Linnet Ridgeway Doyle, a rich heiress. Branagh has used Lucy Bevan for most of his features, including “Orient Express,” and will most likely return to her once more of this project.
