Are you a high school senior in awe of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s brilliance? Now’s the time to show the Pulitzer, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner what you’ve got. Wesleyan University is accepting applications for its inaugural “Hamilton” Prize for Creativity, a four-year, full-tuition scholarship that will cover up to $200,000 of educational fees.
The selection committee is made up of the Broadway maverick himself, in addition to the Tony-winning musical’s director Thomas Kail, the nine-time Emmy-winning creator of “Mad Men” Matthew Weiner, and “A Series of Unfortunate Events” bestselling author Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket. (His 13-book series has recently been turned into a Netflix property starring Neil Patrick Harris that’s set to premiere January 2017!) All are Wesleyan alumni.

“Bringing the Wes community together to select the first recipient of the ‘Hamilton’ Prize for Creativity fills me with love and gratitude,” Miranda said in a statement. “I am humbled to be a member of such a talented group of passionate, creative forces.”
According to the school’s website, “The Wesleyan University ‘Hamilton’ Prize for Creativity will be awarded to the incoming student of Wesleyan’s Class of 2021 whose work of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, or other creative written expression (lyrics, plays, scripts, etc.) best reflects the originality, artistry, and dynamism embodied in ‘Hamilton.’ ”
All incoming freshman are eligible to apply and must submit an original piece of creative writing by Jan. 1, 2017 to be considered. For more information on specific guidelines, click here.
