Artemis Women in Action Film Festival is proud to present our sixth edition in a dazzling, virtual format that allows you to watch from anywhere in the world from any desktop or mobile device. Indulge in caviar or cupcakes, beer or bubbles from the comfort of home as you enjoy watching strong women characters kick ass in a multitude of genres such as action, comedy, documentaries, features, and shorts.
As a film festival with the sole dedication of celebrating female action and empowerment heroes, AWIAFF remains true to the mission of showcasing carefully chosen, excellently crafted movies with a focus on the power of women, be it physical or spiritual, and of body, mind, or character. Women come in all shapes, sizes, characters, and types—and so do our movies. We offer a little something for everyone with the hope that we all recognize some of ourselves in each of them and are inspired by their stories.

Here at Artemis, we pay special tribute to screenwriters and musicians because, as we all know, they contribute greatly to the art of filmmaking. Without screenwriters there are no stories, characters, or dialogue, and without music we lack mood, suspense, and dramatic timing. It all comes together to enhance the film-watching experience.
It has been a proud tradition at AWIAFF to honor strong female lead characters at our past festival editions. Past honorees include acclaimed directors who showcase these narratives like Paul Feig, Rosemary Rodriguez, Kimberly Peirce, and TJ Scott; renowned actors who bring them to life like Michelle Rodriguez, Ming-Na Wen, Tom Cruise, Melissa McCarthy, Daniela Ruah; and stunt performers like Debbie Evans, Jeannie Epper, Luci Romberg, Alicia Vela Bailey, Angela Meryl, Zoe Bell, and Heidi Moneymaker.
The caliber of films in Official Selections, as in previous years, has continued to soar, arriving from all around the world and mirroring the global social climate with meaningful messages that reverberate with powerful stories, interesting characters, difficult situations, and tough lessons. These cinematic slices of life prove our similarities as human beings who are simply attempting to cope with what life throws in their path. In this way, movies create a magical way to bring us together—and it’s AWIAFF’s great pleasure to aid in this endeavor, though it’s no small task. We must narrow our selections from an array of submissions arriving from over 35 countries, but we relish the task, as it allows us to provide audiences with some amazing entertainment.
Please join us and all our wonderful filmmakers and sponsors like Backstage in support of films that live up to Artemis’ official hashtag, #WomenKickAss. Each of the selections included in this sixth edition meets a high bar of excellence in the field of filmmaking, script writing, music, and film scoring. As with each year, we design our programming to leave viewers inspired, looking at life through a lighter lens, and an endeavoring spirit with which to meet life’s challenges. You can get an all-access pass right here.
