Atlanta has acquired the perfect ingredients for production: sugar, spice, everything nice, and Chemical X! Filming on the pilot is now underway for the buzzed-about live-action “The Powerpuff Girls” series, “Powerpuff.” The project will star Chloe Bennet (Blossom), Dove Cameron (Bubbles), and Yana Perrault (Buttercup) as the eponymous superhero trio now in their 20s and full of resentment having lost their childhood to crimefighting. According to Atlanta’s 11Alive, the metro area is serving as the fiction city of Townsville in the live-action reboot with street sections around Charles McDaniel Park being closed off on April 7 and 8. Though the pilot order was placed back in August 2020, filming has only now just begun: director Maggie Kiley shared a photo on Instagram of her director’s chair on April 7 to mark the first day of filming, and recent set photos captured the stars on set in costume in the girls’ original color-coded outfits. The pilot will also star the recently announced Donald Faison as Professor Utonium and Nicholas Podany as the villain Joseph “Jojo” Mondel Jr, a.k.a. Mojo Jojo. Diablo Cody and Heather V. Regnier are the series creators with Berlanti Productions serving as the production team.
