Audelco Award Nominees Announced

Nominees for the 27th annual Vivian Robinson Audelco Recognition Awards, honoring African American theatre artists, were announced by theatre veteran Andre DeShields on Mon., Oct. 18.

The 91 nominees were chosen in the following 13 categories: production of the year; lead actress; lead actor; solo performance; ensemble performance; supporting actress; supporting actor; playwright; director; sound design; costume design; set design; and lighting design. Nominees include:

Production of the year: "Angelique," "Everybody's Ruby," "Jar the Floor," "The Old Settler," and "The Trial of One Short-Sighted Black Woman vs. Mammy Louise & Safreeta Mae."

Lead actress: Stephanie Berry ("Fixin' the Album"), Patrice Johnson ("Angelique"), Phylicia Rashad ("Everybody's Ruby"), Genie Sloan ("Whoa Jack!"), and Leslie Uggams ("The Old Settler").

Lead actor: Michael Ealy ("Whoa Jack"), Michael Early ("Fixin' The Album"), Beau Gravitte ("Everybody's Ruby"), and Adam Wade ("Still Such A Thing As Love").

The 1999 winners will be announced in a Nov. 15 ceremony, at Harlem Windows Restaurant.
