Auditions Announced for New Sam Shepard Play

Auditions have been announced for Signature Theatre Company's production of a new play by Sam Shepard ("True West," "Buried Child"). Telsey + Company is casting four roles in the as-yet-untitled play, which will premiere Off-Broadway beginning in early August.

According to the casting notice, Roscoe is an older guy "with some sand and grit" who teaches literature. Sally is a sexual woman with a deep and complex soul, and Lucy is Sally's older sister who is starting to resent her role as caretaker. Elizabeth is a beautiful yet mysterious nurse "with an edge of pain," who takes care of Sally and Lucy's 70-year-old mother Mable. The role of Mable has been cast, but auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements. She uses a wheelchair but is still tough, smart, unyielding, and intimidating.

Equity principal auditions will be held April 12 in New York City. For more information and audition details, view the full casting notice on (Subscription required.) These auditions are for Equity members, but nonunion actors may also be seen if time permits.

The play will be directed by Daniel Aukin ("4000 Miles" Off-Broadway, "A View from the Bridge" at Arena Stage). Rehearsals begin in July.
