Berger folds up AMG tent to top new CAA wing

After two years at Artists Management Group, Alan Berger is returning to the talent agency business as the head of a newly created news and public affairs department at CAA. Among the clients who will join Berger at CAA is Katie Couric, the "Today" star who is poised to strike a blockbuster deal when her current NBC contract expires next summer. Berger's list also includes such TV news stars as Connie Chung and Larry King, talk show host Maury Povich and "NYPD Blue" co-creator David Milch, but CAA would say only that it expects other clients to follow Berger to the agency. "Alan understands the entertainment business from every imaginable angle," said Lee Gabler, CAA co-chairman and head of the television division. "His experience and relationships perfectly match the direction in which CAA continues to advance, building bridges between varying fields of entertainment and media to maximize opportunities for our clients."
