Happy September, artists! This month, we’ve gathered some exciting auditions, performances, and dance classes for you to check out. Andrew Pearson will be performing a one-night-only performance that you do not want to miss, and if you’re feeling adventurous, be sure to swing down to Pieter Space for an immersive performance project.
PERFORMANCES
The Ruby Street wedding chapel presents “Dearly Beloved: A Union, Out of Wedlock,” a new performance event from the body and mind of Andrew Pearson. This one-night-only performance, happening Sept. 20, utilizes large-scale interactive art installations and live dance-theater performance to explore gender, love, and partnership. It’ll be an evening you don’t want to miss—grab your tickets today! (Tickets starting at $20)
AUDITIONS
Calling all ballet dancers! Anaheim Ballet seeks male and female ballet dancers for its upcoming performance of “The Nutcracker Ballet.” Auditions will take place Sept. 8. Please bring a headshot and résumé with you.
Love African cultural dance? The African Dance Competition Los Angeles will be holding an audition dance contest Sept. 15 for a $5,000 cash prize. Come to share your artistry in hip-hop and Afro-Fusion and see if you’ve got what it takes to win.
Debbie Allen Dance Academy also seeks ballet dancers for its upcoming performances of “The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker.” Young men will audition on Sept. 14 and young women on Sept. 15 at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Must bring a headshot and résumé!
CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
On Sept. 6, dancers will have the opportunity to take a class from the artistic director of Los Angeles Contemporary Dance Company, Genevieve Carson. This combination intermediate and advanced class will focus on finding freedom in the body, efficiency in movement, and refining dynamics in phrasework.
New to hip-hop and want a midweek pick-me-up? Pop (and lock) into Jabari Odom’s Wednesday night beginner hip-hop class at Debbie Reynolds Legacy Studios. You’ll be groovin’ in no time.
If you’re looking for a great way to start your weekend, we recommend Reid Olson’s intermediate and advanced ballet class on Saturday mornings at Dance Arts Academy. You’ll feel light on your feet all weekend long.
Dance late into the night with two back-to-back master classes taught by Sammy Soto and Tia Rivera. House will be followed by hip-hop, and you’ll even get to follow up with a Q&A and panel with special guests! Register now for this amazing workshop coming up this Sept. 23 from 7–10 p.m.
