Summer isn’t over yet, but we can already feel the anticipation as dance companies work to open the fall season. This month, we’ve gathered exciting upcoming performances, including A.I.M and John Jasperse Projects, as well as new classes and auditions to add to your calendar.
PERFORMANCES
Join Emma Portner with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago/Third Coast Percussion, and Anne Plamondon Sept. 9–10 at the Guggenheim’s “Works & Process” performing arts series. The evening will include excerpts from her recent commision for Hubbert Street as well as her duet with Plamondon, commissioned by Fall For Dance North. Portner will also screen her newest dance film “Femme Debout.” ($45)
John Jasperse Projects takes the stage at the Joyce Theater Sept. 24–28. Jasperse and his dancers will perform “Hinterland,” about a micro-community where dance is seen as a celebration as well as a refuge from the wreckage of culture and history. A curtain chat will take place Sept. 25. (Tickets starting at $10)
Also at the Joyce Theater this month: Kyle Abraham’s A.I.M is back with “Dearest Home.” This piece explores the themes of love, longing, and loss through vignettes of solos and duets. You do not want to miss these raw and powerful dancers, performing Sept. 29–Oct. 1. (Tickets starting at $10!)
AUDITIONS
The American Swiss Ballet Company is seeking female dancers with strong classical and contemporary technique for upcoming performances. An audition will take place Sept. 10 by invitation only. Submit your materials today for a chance to be seen.
The Lydia Johnson Dance repertory seeks highly musical and individual dancers with strong ballet technique for contemporary work. What better way to audition for them than to take their workshop and dance right alongside the company? This exciting workshop audition will take place Sept. 5–7 at Peridance Capezio Center.
10 Hairy Legs dance company seeks strong male dancers to join their company for the 2018/2019 season. Auditions will take place Sept. 8 with callbacks on Sept. 9. If interested, you must register in advance and bring your headshot and résumé to the audition.
