“Back in Action”
Cameron Diaz said farewell to acting back in 2018 when she announced her retirement; but she’s making a comeback in the Netflix film “Back in Action” opposite Jamie Foxx. (The two previously shared the screen in 1999’s “Any Given Sunday” and 2014’s “Annie.”) Plot details are being kept under wraps, but Automatic Sweat Casting is finding more actors to fill out the action comedy. Seth Gordon (“Horrible Bosses,” “The Goldbergs”) is set to direct and co-write alongside Brendan O’Brien (“Neighbors,” “The House”); Gordon is also producing under his Exhibit A banner. Though dates are still being hammered out, the project will likely begin filming before the end of the year in Atlanta and the U.K.
“Based on a True Story”
“The Flight Attendant” Emmy nominee Kaley Cuoco will star on “Based on a True Story,” a new true crime series for Peacock. The comedic thriller follows a realtor, a plumber, and an ex–tennis pro who find their lives intertwined thanks to America’s obsession with murder and the “slow-close toilet seat.” Cuoco is the only actor currently attached to the project, with additional casting coming from Ronna Kress. Craig Rosenberg (“The Boys,” “Preacher”) will write and showrun the series, as well as executive producing alongside Jason Bateman. Filming is set to start in Los Angeles this month.
“Animal Control”
The cat’s out of the bag on Fox’s latest sitcom. The network is bulking up its evening lineup with a straight-to-series order for workplace comedy “Animal Control,” which follows animal control staffers as they go through their day-to-day. The single-camera show comes from Bob Fisher and Rob Greenberg, who co-created the “The Moodys,” another Fox series, as well as Dan Sterling (“Long Shot,” “The Sarah Silverman Program”). Colloff/Nicolo Casting is putting together the ensemble. Though no actors have been officially attached, production is slated to start this month in Vancouver.
