Casting Director Sylvia Fay Dies at 91

Casting director Sylvia Fay of Sylvia Fay/Lee Genick & Associates Casting passed away peacefully in New York Aug. 22. She was 91. Cause of death was unknown as of press time.

In the 1960's, Fay was one of the first women in New York to open her own background casting company for film and TV where she cast thousands of extras in films such as Taxi Driver and Scent of a Woman. Recent credits include You Don't Mess with the Zohan; Definitely, Maybe; Hamlet 2; Cloverfield; and The Wackness.

A memorial service will be held in her honor on Oct. 5 at Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, NYC at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Actors Fund or to The American Cancer Society, two causes that Fay supported in her lifetime.
