What happened when Cristin Milioti officially wrapped on playing Sofia Falcone on “The Penguin,” the role that just earned the actor her first Emmy nomination? “I burst into tears,” she told us with a laugh on the most recent episode of In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast.

“We wrapped at like 4 a.m. in Long Island. It was 10 degrees out,” Milioti says. “Everyone wanted to go home, so I just wanted to say a brief ‘thank you’ to everyone. And I couldn’t get through it. I maybe got eight words in, then was a blubbering mess. I really didn’t want it to end.”

“The Penguin,” Lauren LeFranc’s Gotham City–set spinoff show from Matt Reeves’ “The Batman,” is officially billed as a limited series, so Milioti has no immediate plans to return to the part that became so near and dear to her. (Next up, she’s stepping into the horror genre for “Too Many Cooks” director Casper Kelly.) But in the world of superhero storytelling, you can truly never say never—”The Batman 2” is, after all, still slated for 2027.

“I don’t have an answer [about playing Sofia again]. That’s the God’s honest truth. But I would. I would love nothing more,” Milioti says.

On this installment of In the Envelope, Milioti takes us through her entire career, from dropping out of NYU and debuting as “The Mother” in “How I Met Your Mother” to putting her defining stamp on Sofia Falcone for “The Penguin.” Listen and subscribe to hear the full conversation:
