The Mouse is back. Disneyland in California has announced that it will reopen on April 30, with Disney’s California Adventure reopening the same day. Ten thousand furloughed Disneyland workers have been called back into work; Disney had to lay off around 32,000 workers due to the pandemic. But actors will not be called back because the live shows will not be among the attractions that will reopen.

“We’ve been operating at Walt Disney World for about nine months, and there certainly is no shortage of demand,” said Disney CEO Bob Chapek to CNBC. “Consumers trust Disney to do the right thing, and we’ve certainly proven that we can [open] responsibly, whether it’s temperature checks, masks, social distancing, [or] improved hygiene around the parks.”

Disneyland and California Adventure will open at 15% capacity to park-goers, who will have to reserve dates in advance. Both attendees and workers will be required to wear masks throughout the parks, and there will be temperature screenings before they enter. Employees will also have a health screening before they come into work. There will also be additional hand sanitizer and hand-washing locations throughout the park.

And in accordance with California guidelines, Disney will only open the park to California residents.

Not every attraction will be reopened. Character meet and greets, and parades will not be returning at this time. The live shows are also on hiatus, as Disney is pausing any attraction that calls for a gathered crowd. Disney characters will still walk around the park but they will interact with guests from a distance.

Six Flags Magic Mountain, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Knott’s Berry Farm have also announced their reopening for April and May, also with a max 15% capacity, in accordance with state guidelines.
