Stepping into the sensible shoes of one of cinema’s most iconic roles, previously played by an Oscar-winning legend, is far from an easy task. But judging by Disney’s newly released trailer for “Mary Poppins Returns,” Emily Blunt has risen to the challenge with an infectious charm that is both entirely hers and a tribute to Julie Andrews, the original flying nanny.
The whimsical and wondrous sequel, to be unveiled in theaters Dec. 19 with new, original music, is bolstered by a supporting cast as dazzling as its partially animated special effects: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, and of course, Dick Van Dyke. Check out the official trailer for “Mary Poppins Returns” below, and be prepared for more than a spoonful of nostalgia.
