The 2024 Primetime Emmy nominations are in! The prestigious 76th Emmy Awards celebrating the best television of the year will be held Sept. 15—just eight months after the 75th ceremony, which was delayed for half a year due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
It’s official: “The Bear” holds the new record for most nominations in a single year in the comedy category with 23 nods, overtaking “30 Rock” and its 22 nominations back in 2009. Along with an appearance in the best comedy category, the FX on Hulu series—set in the hectic kitchen of a Chicago restaurant—was nominated for its writing, directing, and performances from Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Lionel Boyce, and Liza Colón-Zayas.
Joining “The Bear” in the comedy category are “Abbott Elementary” (9 nominations), “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (4 nominations), “Hacks” (16 nominations), “Only Murders in the Building” (21 nominations), “Palm Royale” (11 nominations), “Reservation Dogs” (4 nominations), and “What We Do in the Shadows” (8 nominations).
A Hiro’s Journey Over on the drama side, FX’s “Shōgun” leads the way with an impressive 25 nominations, including a nod for best drama and the first Emmys recognition for industry veteran Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays Lord Yoshii Toranaga on the historical epic. “Shōgun” is facing competition in the drama category from “The Crown” (18 nominations), “Fallout” (16 nominations), “The Gilded Age” (6 nominations), “The Morning Show” (16 nominations), “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” (16 nominations), “Slow Horses” (9 nominations), and “3 Body Problem” (6 nominations).
“True Detective: Night Country,” the fourth season of HBO’s crime-solving anthology series, is on top of the limited series block with 19 nominations, including acting nods for Jodie Foster, John Hawkes, and Kali Reis. That series is followed closely by Netflix’s surprise sensation, “Baby Reindeer.” The seven-part stalking drama notched 15 nominations, including first-time draws for its two leads, Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning. Gadd, who created the series based on his own one-man show, is also nominated for outstanding writing for a limited series.
