Happy October, dancers! With autumn comes new class schedules, a fresh roster of teachers, workshops, auditions, and exciting opening night performances. We recommend you check out BAM’s Next Wave Festival for some artistic inspiration, as well as Kay Nishikawa’s sensory expanding improvisational workshop.

PERFORMANCES
As part of BAM’s 2018 Next Wave Festival, New York City Ballet principal dancer Joaquin De Luz will perform “Watermill.” This rarely performed work by Jerome Robbins has been reimagined for BAM’s Fishman Space by Luca Veggetti and still resonates with us a half a century later. ($25)

Join Chris Bell for his first evening-length work, “YouthandDeath,” at Dixon Place Oct. 25–27. Come explore the trials and tribulations of the aging process through four allegorical characters: Beauty, Death, Youth, and The In-Between. ($18 in advance, $20 at the door)

Check out the Guggenheim this Oct. 2–3 and experience Works & Process, a performing arts series presenting Pacific Northwest Ballet’s “Jerome Robbins Centennial Celebration: Male Solos With Peter Boal.” Don’t miss this chance to discuss and take in these incredible male solos by acclaimed choreographer Jerome Robbins on the occasion of Robbins’ 2018 Centennial. ($45)

Hudson River Music Hall Productions presents “Ballet Meets the Beatles,” a live performance on Oct. 13 by Chevalier Ballet and tribute band Across the Pond, as well as string quartet Silhouette. This performance will take place at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. Come help us celebrate this beautiful collaboration of art forms! ($40–50)

AUDITIONS
Seeking movement artists to participate in “On Display Brooklyn,” a “live sculpture court” as part of the worldwide initiative of “On Display Global,” created by Heidi Latsky Dance in celebration of the United Nations’ International Day of Persons with Disabilities. On Display is a deconstructed art exhibit and fashion show and commentary on the body as a spectacle and society’s obsession with body image. Stillness, structured improv, and concentration are required! We are seeking an all-inclusive cast: all ages (18+), shapes, sizes, races, genders, including those with visible disabilities. If interested and available Dec. 1, please email vad2126@columbia.edu.

Hannah Q Dance Company seeks male dancers for the fall season to start immediately. Must have excellent technique in contemporary dance as well as strong partnering skills. If interested, please submit your materials as soon as possible.

Royal Caribbean Productions will hold an open casting call on Oct. 10 for dancers who sing for their upcoming production of “Cats.” Rehearsals will begin at the end of January 2019. Dancers must be versatile and athletic with a solid technique.

CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
On Oct. 15, join choreographer Kay Nishikawa and the dancers of her company K2 Dance & Arts for her Phi Art Movement Workshop at the Center for Performance Research at 6 p.m. This workshop is an improvisational movement study strongly focused on the exploration of the mind and five senses. The goal is not for technical achievement, but rather the discovery process of your own individual movement vocabulary and its expression. To register, please email dumbok2arts@gmail.com.

Join Jessie Young every Monday at Brooklyn Studios for Dance for her technique class where you can expect feel-good movement, loud music, and sweat. This is a sliding scale class from $5–$10!
