The ANMT supports workshops, readings, studio productions, and collaboration opportunities for writers, composers, actors, directors, producers, and audience members who share a love of musical theatre. It offers a writers workshop for composers, lyricists, and bookwriters; the Academy Repertory Company of actors and directors; New Works for Young Audiences; and an online curriculum. ALAP is a nonprofit support and service organization for the L.A. playwriting community. This lab is designed to help playwrights and screenwriters develop their scripts to the highest quality possible. Each week sections of different scripts are read by professional actors, giving writers the opportunity to hear and be objective about that work. First Stage focuses on the development of new work for the screen and stage. Included are staged readings (Mondays, 7 p.m.), a writers workshop (Tuesdays, 7 p.m.), an annual one-act contest (Sept. 15 deadline), the annual Playwrights Express festival fundraiser with 100-plus plays, skits, poems, and scenes (March 15 deadline), and Stage Oddity, an annual production of short pieces from the writers' workshop. There are two workshop presentations annually. Dues $195 annually or $55 per quarter. Audit is allowed on Monday/Tuesday sessions free (for two times). Contact: literary manager Dennis Safren.

SCR accepts submissions year-round for full-length plays, translations, and adaptations. Submitted plays are considered for possible inclusion in the NewSCRipts series and the Pacific Playwrights Festival, as well as for production on SCR's Mainstage or Second Stage.
