Back Stage spoke with Danny Burstein about his Tony nomination for ‘Follies’ from his dressing room at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, where the production opens on Thursday.

Here’s what Burstein had to say about being nominated for a third time.

“I think it’s sweeter, I’ll be honest with you. I’m having the absolute time of my life. The other two times, I wasn’t as nervous and this time, I have to admit, when I went to bed last night, I was a little nervous. I sort of tossed and turned and had a pretty restless night and was awakened at 5:30 this morning with a bunch of texts. Of course, they were all innocuous, I couldn’t tell what they meant! One went, ‘I’m crossing my fingers.’ Another said, ‘I’m going back to bed now!’ We’re in this business housing, and I’m trying to go find the website or anything and the Internet doesn’t work. You have to punch in a number at the top of every month and because today’s May 1, it changed. I was trying to find the code, scrambling. Somebody finally texted me: ‘Congratulations.’ And I finally got the Internet to work. And I went straight to my category because I am an egomaniac. And I let out a whoop that was so loud because two of my dear friends, Norm Lewis and Ron Raines, were also nominated. I swear to God, at 5:40 this morning, everyone in Building C heard me scream out loud. I literally threw my arms over my head because I was so excited for everybody.”
