There’s been another disturbance in the Force. And by disturbance in the Force, we mean the newest big-screen installment of the beloved “Star Wars” franchise.

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will fly into theaters Dec. 16, on the heels of last year’s box office record-smashing hit “Episode VII – The Force Awakens.” Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by Chris Weitz and Tony Gilroy based on an idea by John Knoll, this epic space opera marks the first “Star Wars” stand-alone story, depicting the events shortly before the series’ original movie.

As diehard fans and cinephiles alike will remember, “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope” centered on the discovery and destruction of the evil Galactic Empire’s planet-destroying Death Star. “Rogue One” will follow the group of Rebel spies whose mission to steal the plans for the weapon found them facing immeasurable odds—and Darth Vader. Starring Oscar nominee Felicity Jones as the unlikely Rebel hero Jyn Erso, as well as Mads Mikkelsen, Diego Luna, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, the film is sure to satisfy “Star Wars” fans with some of the best action and most dazzling visual effects of the year.
