HBO (finally) releases “Game of Thrones” Season 8 trailer.
After a long wait, HBO has released the trailer for the eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones.” Coming in just under two minutes, the trailer features many familiar faces, including, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Jamie and Cersei Lannister, and the Stark sisters—though that’s no guarantee they’ll survive to the end. The first episode is set to premiere April 14. (Deadline)
The AAPAC shares annual diversity report. It’s not great.
The Asian American Performers Action Coalition (AAPAC) released its annual demographics report for New York. For the first time, the report included creative team members of theatrical productions and found that 95 percent of playwrights and directors from the 2016-17 Broadway season were Caucasian.(Fast Company)
But at least the Tribeca Film Festival is diverse!
After 44 percent of its 2018 films were directed by women, the Tribeca Film Festival has upped their game again. The 2019 iteration will see half of all its competitive films directed or co-directed by women. Additionally, 29 percent of the festival’s feature films are helmed by people of color, and 13 percent by people who identify as LGBTQ+. (Women and Hollywood)
Netflix acquires the rights for a “One Hundred Years of Solitude” adaptation.
For the first time ever, Rodrigo García, son of novelist Gabriel García Márquez, has given Netflix the rights to adapt his father’s novel into a Spanish-language series. “Netflix was among the first to prove that people are more willing than ever to see series that are produced in foreign languages with subtitles,” he said. “Scooby-Doo” is coming to the big screen with a lot of big voices attached.
The latest addition to the nostalgia reboot train? An animated “Scooby-Doo” feature. Joining veteran voice actor Frank Welker (who originated the role of Fred back in 1968) will be Gina Rodriguez, Will Forte, and Tracy Morgan. (THR)
