‘Game of Thrones’ Reigns Over 2014 Emmy Noms

“Game of Thrones” dominated this year’s Emmys with 19 nominations, including a supporting actor nod for Peter Dinklage and a nomination for Lena Headey, as well as one for casting director Robert Sterne; the series also landed an outstanding drama series nod. FX's “Fargo” followed with 18 nominations, including one in the miniseries category and four for actors Colin Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, and new-comer Allison Tolman. “Fargo” is up against “American Horror Story: Coven” and “Luther,” starring nominee Idris Elba.

“True Detective” successfully landed a nomination in the drama category (a controversial move) alongside “Breaking Bad,” “House of Cards,” “Mad Men,” and “Downton Abbey.” Stars Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey both received nominations.

Netflix proved its growth with shows like comedy series nominee “Orange is the New Black” and drama series nominee “House of Cards,” more than doubling the streaming services total nominations from last year.

Surprise snubs include Vera Farmiga (“Bates Motel”), Tatiana Maslany for “Orphan Black,” “The Americans” Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys, and Golden Globe winner “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
