Backstage took part in three different conversations with some of TV’s brightest stars.
Editor-in-Chief Mark Peikert sat down with Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez (“Jane The Virgin”), Krysten Ritter (“Jessica Jones”), and Gillian Jacobs (“Love”) to chat about their acting journeys, what first drew them to their successful projects, and their advice for working actors.
Gina Rodriguez
Star of “Jane The Virgin” Rodriguez spoke with Backstage about learning to see herself as an ingénue, why she gets so emotional when reading the episode scripts, and how her Golden Globe statue broke! Watch the video below for more of the incomparable Rodriguez.
Krysten Ritter
“She’s a superhero but she’s really bad at it!” was how Ritter’s manager originally pitched “Marvel’s Jessica Jones” to the actor. She responded with utter confusion over why she was being considered for the role in the first place! Check out the video below to see what made her change her mind, how she and her acting coach worked through the scripts, her on-screen chemistry with Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and why the show’s character-driven nature was such a thrilling challenge.
Gillian Jacobs
For her SAG-AFTRA Foundation talk with Backstage, Jacobs touched on her history with “Community” and playing unlikeable characters, the piece of wardrobe that most helped her embody Mickie on the Netflix series “Love,” and which scenes were most uncomfortable for her to shoot. (One includes heckling, another includes an “atomic wedgie.”) Watch the video below to hear more about her experience on “Love.”
