This week’s roundup of casting notices is for you gypsies out there—or those who hope to become one someday. Broadway’s currently running “The Color Purple,” which won the Tony for best musical revival earlier this year, is casting possible replacements for leading and supporting roles, as are regional productions of shows “The Secret Garden” and “West Side Story.” You don’t want to miss these six fabulous musical opportunities!

Broadway’s Tony winning “The Color Purple” is casting Equity actors as possible replacements for several roles, including force of nature Celie and the dynamo Shug Avery. The production, helmed by director John Doyle, will hold auditions Nov. 10 at Pearl Studios in New York City.

Female talent is sought for “The Starlets,” a production billed as “a high-concept homage to all the classic ‘50s and ‘60s female groups, such as The Ronettes, The Angels, and The Supremes.” Talent should have a flexible schedule and be willing to perform with the group year-round both in California and elsewhere in the country.

A union production of “The Secret Garden” is casting talent for several roles for an upcoming run in California. The musical, which won three Tony awards back in 1991, will begin rehearsals Jan. 3, 2017, with a run slated for Jan. 28–Feb. 12 at the Lewis Family Playhouse in Pasadena, California.

“Hockey: The Musical,” an original production, seeks talent for three leading and two supporting roles. The piece, created and written by Mitch Albom, previously ran for eight weeks in Detroit, Michigan, and will return for a new run “with audience expectations high.” Rehearsals will begin June 2017, with a run slated for three weeks in August 2017 that will tour throughout Michigan.

“West Side Story,” the classic American musical featuring a score by Leaonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurents, is casting lead and supporting roles for a regional production. The piece, seeking both union and nonunion actors, will rehearse May 22–June 15, 2017, with a run slated for June 16–24, 2017 in St. Joseph, Missouri.

“90210: THE MUSICAL”
A leading role is sought for “90210: The Musical,” currently running Off-Broadway. The show, billed as “the unauthorized musical parody of ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ ” seeks a female actor aged 18–31 to portray Brenda Walsh. Rehearsals for the nonunion production will begin immediately in New York City.
