Welcome to our newest series, What’s Casting: New York! Check back every week for a spotlight on the biggest projects looking for talent in the city that never sleeps.

Amazon’s forthcoming comedy “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” created by Amy Sherman-Palladino of “Gilmore Girls” renown, is casting New York City background actors. The series, set in the 1950s and which follows a female standup, has already been given a two-season order from the online streaming service.

Male actors ages 18 and up who are nonunion are needed to portray African American and Italian garment district workers in the ’50s. They cannot have visible tattoos and will be required to have era-appropriate haircuts and facial hair (or be willing to make necessary alterations). Jackie Synder Benz of Grant Wifley Casting is handling this portion of casting for the series.

The series has already announced its principal cast and includes Rachel Brosnahan, Alex Borstein, Tony Shaloub, and Marin Hinkle. A release date for the first season has not yet been announced, however, Amazon subscribers can stream the first episode right now.
