“Grace and Frankie” casting associate Emily Towler ended her 2017 on a high note: She was nominated by the Casting Society of America to receive its Associate Spotlight Award–Los Angeles. “I was shocked when I found out, but so grateful,” Towler says of the Artios Awards recognition. “It means so much to be acknowledged for the hard work and dedication I have put in.”

Towler says she’s particularly thrilled to be recognized for working on a series that’s close to her heart. “I feel proud to work on a show that gives a voice to an older generation,” she says. “I’ve learned a lot about resilience and the importance of living life to the fullest.”

When asked what advice she has for other aspiring casting professionals, Towler suggests contacting CSA. “We’re starting a training program for assistants. It’s going to help educate people who are new,” she says. “The job is hard and you’ll be learning every day, but if you’re passionate about it, you’ll love this field.”
