Calling all “Wicked” fans! The upcoming Universal Pictures adaptation of the hit musical is making headlines—big time. Here’s everything you need to know about the new film.

The new “Wicked” movie has found its Glinda and Elphaba.

It’s good to see them, isn’t it? After a long casting search and an even longer development process, the upcoming Universal Pictures adaptation of the hit Broadway musical “Wicked” has found its Glinda and Elphaba in Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, respectively, per Variety. Both Grande and Erivo shared the news in a series of photos (which included their own video chat meetings and flower arrangements to each other) on their Instagram accounts after the news was announced. Erivo, a Tony, Grammy, and Daytime Emmy winner for her performance in “The Color Purple,” and pop superstar Grande, who made her debut in the Broadway musical “13,” will lead the film directed, as we previously announced, by Jon M. Chu. Composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz will adapt the screenplay for the feature with Winnie Holzman, and as we previously speculated, The Telsey Office is the casting team.
