“Dune” Director Denis Villeneuve is Heading to New Frontiers.
According to Variety, the filmmaker, Denis Villeneuve, will direct an adaptation of the 1973 sci-fi novel “Rendezvous With Rama from “2001: A Space Odyssey” author Arthur C. Clarke. Alcon Entertainment, who previously produced Villeneuve’s “Prisoners” and “Blade Runner 2049,” recently acquired the rights to the novel, which is “ set in the 2130s and centers on a 31-by-12 mile cylindrical alien starship that enters the solar system and is “told from the point of view of a group of human explorers who intercept the ship in an attempt to unlock its mysteries.” Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary will produce with Alcon. There’s no timeline yet for “Rendezvous With Rama” for the ever-busy Villeneuve, who will likely need to get “Dune: Part Two” off the ground first. Villeneuve always works with casting director Francine Maisler.
