“Halo”
Gamers rejoice: the highly anticipated series adaptation of “Halo” is rounding out its principal cast. Showtime announced late last week that Natascha McElhone, Bokeem Woodbine, Shabana Azmi, Bentley Kalu, Natasha Culzac, and Kate Kennedy have all joined the series adaptation of the megahit video game, joining the previously announced lead Pablo Schreiber, who will play Master Chief, and Yerin Ha, who is playing a new character named Kwan Ha. The series is scheduled to begin production later this year in Budapest with an expected premiere in the first quarter of 2021. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will serve as the showrunners with Otto Bathurst directing and executive producing. No CD has been made public yet.
“Six”
“Six” is (be)headed to Broadway! After its original touring (and now West End) run in the UK and a North American debut in Chicago, the hit musical about the six wives of Henry VIII will begin performances this winter at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, with an opening night scheduled for March 12. Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss wrote the book, music, and lyrics to the show, which has garnered a large fanbase over the past year and a half. Ahead of its Broadway bow, it will tour Boston, Massachusetts, Edmonton, Canada, and St. Paul, Minnesota. Official casting will be announced soon with Tara Rubin at the helm.
“Truth Seekers”
Comedy-horror’s greatest team are reuniting for a new project, and a major platform has signed on to distribute. First reported by Variety, Amazon Prime Video has boarded Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s upcoming comedy-horror series “Truth Seekers.” Pegg and Frost will executive produce and star in the series, which follows a pair of paranormal investigators who team up to uncover and film paranormal sightings across the UK (Frost will play one of the ghost hunters, while Peg is playing a character whose background has yet to be revealed). Further casting for the eight-installment series will be announced soon, and production begins in September.
Hedy Lamarr Series
On a break from her breakout role as Wonder Woman, Gal Gadot has lined up her next starring vehicle, once again playing a strong, influential woman. The actor has signed on to star as actor and inventor Hedy Lamarr in a limited series from Showtime. The project comes from “The Affair” co-creator and executive producer Sarah Treem, who will write the scripts. Gadot will executive produce the series with her husband and producing partner Jaron Varsano, along with Treem, “The Handmaid’s Tale” producer Warren Littlefield, and Katie Robbins. A casting director has yet to be publically named, but if Treem returns to her “The Affair” team, Tucker/Meyerson could get the job.
“Newsflash”
First reported by Deadline, Chris Pine is attached to play the iconic CBS anchor Walter Cronkite in the upcoming “Newsflash,” a drama that takes place on the day of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination and covers “the day that television network news came of age.” The story will also focus on Don Hewitt, Cronkite’s producer, who was originally supposed to be played by Mark Ruffalo, a piece that has changed but not yet been recast, according to Deadline. Ben Jacoby will write the script. A new director is currently being sought after David Gordon Green pulled out to helm the “Halloween” sequels and upcoming Cambridge Analytica scandal drama. Deanna Brigidi is the casting director.
