See how Julian Schnabel brought Vincent Van Gogh to life in “At Eternity’s Gate.”
Film is art (obviously), but it’s never more obvious than when a film is culled from some of the most famous paintings in history. “At Eternity’s Gate” explores the life of Vincent Van Gogh, an artist whose life was as mysterious as his paintings became iconic. Drawn from scenes Van Gogh painted, documented facts, and a healthy dose of hearsay and speculation, this film by Julian Schnabel and starring Willem Defoe, Rupert Friend, Oscar Isaac, and more, explores his life in an uncharacteristically optimistic way. See it on Nov. 5 at LACMA, along with a post-screening conversation with Schnabel that’s sure to cover how he brought this earless wonder to life. (Free)
