Abigail Eiland says Backstage has provided her “with a lantern when I’m in some dark artistic pit.” A longtime user, she has always turned to the magazine as a guide in tough times. “I remember doing community theater in my hometown as a kid and someone had brought in a copy,” she says. “I had never seen anything like it before; it was like someone showed me a map of the world for the first time.”

During an audition earlier this year, Eiland’s know-how helped book a juicy role in “The Assistants,” a new Hollywood Fringe Festival musical. She received a callback for the part of Tara just after leaving L.A. for a trip to New York City, and proceeded to film an audition in her hotel room. “I’m sure the other guests loved hearing show tunes being belted at 10 p.m.

“I was tired and pretty ‘all business’ in the tape,” she adds, but later learned that’s exactly why she booked the part. Tara, “a sarcastic workaholic with no time for a relationship,” was a natural fit for Eiland, who wowed L.A. theatergoers this past June. Congrats, Abigail!
