There are two qualities that Miranda Plant looks for when considering a project: something that allows her to use her comedic chops and the opportunity to tell a story that hasn’t been told before. For her recent gig, a sketch comedy pilot called “You Don’t Have to Be Funny,” she found both.

“We were asked to pick two cards out of the bowl and then you had 10 minutes to come up with a screenplay,” says Plant of the whirlwind experience. “Our challenge was ‘Men in Black’ meets ‘Frozen,’ ” she recalls.

Along with Plant’s ambition to tell new stories, she is just as intent to collaborate with new creators, which is just one of the reasons she uses Backstage every day. “I love the opportunities that allow me to work with new filmmakers that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to find,” she says.

Plant herself is on both sides of the creative spectrum and is currently writing a play. Backstage, she insists, ensures that her artistic duality is never outweighed on one side or the other. “I’ll continue to seek out like-minded artists and audition for their work while I make my own,” she says. “Backstage allows me to do that.”
