For her recent role in the student film “This Is Awkward,” child actor Olivia James made a bold move. “My lines had cuss words,” the young talent recalls. “My mom said it was OK as long as they are said with purpose, [and] these lines made the scene funny!”
Swearing and all, James recounts the job (which she booked through Backstage) with fondness. “It was a one-day project and very cold outside, but the crew gave me hot chocolate and we finished up quickly,” she says. “Everyone was very nice to me, even my [screen dad], who was yelling in the scene.”
Not one for downtime, James immediately followed the shoot with a sleepover at a friend’s house, which was then followed by a background shoot the next day on NBC’s “Chicago Fire,” a project she also booked through—you guessed it—Backstage!
Though James has only been using Backstage since August, she has swiftly reaped the benefits of a subscription. “My mom uses Backstage every day, looking for auditions for me, and then [asking] me if I like them or could see myself doing them,” James explains. “My mom says Backstage is good because it is always up to date with auditions. I like Backstage for that and the advice for actors.”
