Thomas Gipson looks to sink his teeth into juicy roles—ones that allow him to portray human beings with depth and dimension. “I enjoy characters that appear strong but as the story develops, you see their humanity and flaws,” he says.
For his recent leading role in the feature film “By Any Means,” which he booked through Backstage, Gipson got just that. Playing a man who kidnaps a celebrity for ransom in order to save his ailing daughter, Gipson explored the depths to which some will go for those they love. “He appears cold and calculating [but is] willing to go to any lengths in order to save his daughter,” he explains.
The shooting of the film itself also required dramatic prowess. “[They were] long shoot days, but everyone’s adrenaline was constantly pumping, so there was never a dull moment,” Gipson recalls. “Since a large portion of the film only contained the two main characters, I got to work on some real meaty scenes, which is every actor’s dream.”
Gipson began using Backstage over three years ago, and now submits for projects on a daily basis. Backstage, he insists, is valuable for one reason above all others. “Work,” he says. “Backstage helps keep me constantly working.”
