Since joining Backstage in April 2015, Jody Doo has been cast in over 10 productions, including pilot “The Internet Ruined My Life,” which was recently picked up by Syfy! In the pilot, Doo plays a Korean activist and avid social media user whose tweets “[lead] her into trouble.”

Because the show is a re-enactment and the voiceover was done by the real-life woman Doo plays, Doo was not given any dialogue during her audition. “The director read the stage directions to me and I had to react on the spot, physically and with my expressions,” she says. “A lot of the scenes were close-ups of the character’s reactions. It was a true test of my acting range, as I had to swing from one emotion to another.”

The audition also challenged Doo to use the space she was given while pretending to be in different environments and settings. “I was glad I did not play it safe during the audition and explored different possibilities of how the character would have reacted.”
