Above all else, Natassha Amalia seeks roles that help strengthen her already existing talents—which is where Backstage comes in. The Brooklyn, N.Y.–based actor recently booked a musical and a number of short films!
Bells and whistles can be nice, but they’re not always necessary.
“I like to do roles that challenge me as a performer, that make my heart jump out. It doesn’t have to be a crazy role, but it has to be fun to play with.”
Count on Backstage to deliver.
“[The audition for the short film ‘Ruthless’] was very simple and straightforward. I applied through Backstage, they called me back about a week later for a callback, and three days later I booked the job! I check Backstage every day to see if there’s a new and exciting project for me.”
A little kindness can go a very long way.
“Most importantly, be nice! Be nice with the filmmaker, the production team, and your fellow actors. Through the projects I have been working on, I have maintained relationships with the directors and actors.”
Find a role that excites you.
“[In one of the short films,] I played a woman who is having a hard time finding balance in her life. She is trying to be so perfect in every role and every aspect of her life that she loses her sense of herself…. I always want to be a part of a project that carries an important message for both the audience and the filmmaker.”
Your Backstage profile is when showboating is acceptable—even expected.
“Put your assets in there: your headshots, performance stills, video and audio reels, and résumé. These will display your talents and what type of performer you are. Plus, the more auditions, the merrier; [they] keep me on my toes.”
