Issa Rae, the creator and star of HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy series “Insecure,” is nominated at the upcoming Emmy Awards for good reason. Throughout four hilarious seasons, she’s upped her game again and again on camera, revealing new layers to her character, Issa Dee.
On this season’s eighth episode, “Lowkey Happy,” fans of the series finally got to see Issa and ex-boyfriend Lawrence (played by Jay Ellis) discuss their relationship. Drawing on years of complicated history, the two actors share an electric chemistry, hesitating to reveal true feelings—until Issa makes the leap and opens up.
