Jason Alexander’s Theatre Co. Hires Stephen Eich to Lead Comeback

Reprise Theatre Company announced it has hired veteran executive Stephen Eich as consulting producer to help it restart production in the New Year.

The musical theater company, which has boasted Jason Alexander as its artistic director since 2007, went on hiatus earlier this year amid financial difficulties.

The company had gained a following producing revivals of classic and recent musical theater titles at UCLA’s Freud Playhouse but couldn’t find a sustainable business model. To avoid assuming debt, they shut down in February despite scheduled performances of “The Apple Tree.”

Now, the company has hired former Geffen Playhouse managing director Eich to lead its revival. “He comes with first hand knowledge of producing, financial management, and business skills,” Alexander and Barbara Fodor, the theatre board’s president, wrote in a letter to supporters.

Eich also served as executive director of the Pasadena Playhouse, where he helped get the theater back into solvency after bankruptcy.

“We are confident that he is a strong addition to our organization,” Fodor and Alexander wrote.

The pair also said they were exploring new “unique venues” for upcoming performances and developing “programing that is far more diverse and engaging.” They plan to announce the future of Reprise in early 2013.
