The worldwide search is on for the lead role in “A Chance in the World,” the forthcoming feature film biopic of Steve Pemberton, “a wounded and broken boy destined to become a man of resilience and vision,” according to the casting notice.

Pemberton was once a young boy getting tossed around in America’s foster care system. Abused daily by his foster parents and siblings from age 5, he finds refuge in books and in a kind neighbor while setting his sights on learning about his real family.

Casting director Elliott Bastounes is seeking a light-skinned African-American male for the lead role, aged 12–15. Pemberton is described as smart and kind; he also has blue eyes of Cape Verdean origins.

This low budget indie will pay in line with SAG-AFTRA’s Ultra Low Budget contract and is scheduled to shoot in the Chicago area Aug. 7–27. This casting notice expires July 14.
