Last year hit us all with the big feelings, the uncertainty, the deep deep reflection. But a new year is here and it’s go time, the time for action, the time to suit up and show up, to be an actor in the fullest sense of the word.

You're done being quiet. You're done waiting for the industry to give you permission to fulfill your dreams. It's time to double down on who you are and what you do, and be nothing less than an absolute creative force.

You're going to get new headshots, recut your reel, look for a new agent, do all the casting director workshops, and more! With a heart full of explosive charge, you're reaching for a match to light up the new year with a bang.

But wait!

Before you move forward with all of this, you have ensure you’re not making a fatal mistake: moving forward without knowing your “why.” Don’t forget to ask yourself why you’re doing what you’re doing. Your purpose is like fuel, and moving forward without it is like setting out for a road trip without a full tank. In short order, you’ll be on the side of road wondering what happened.

If you don’t take the time now to ask yourself “why?” you’ll move forward in the wrong direction. By March, you’ll be back to mindlessly scrolling through Facebook on the couch when you should be out there doing the work of being an actor.

If takes more than just the adrenaline hit of the new year to propel you past the nerves, the rejection, the peaks and valleys of being a successful actor. You must constantly remind yourself why acting is important to you. You must constantly be doing the work of finding new and interesting ways in which it’s important to you.

Once you do that, you’ll see that your “why,” your purpose, is unique. That when success happens it may not look like anyone else’s path, but your unique “why” must work for everything you do in the business.

If you’re ready to make 2017 a time of honing your craft, filling your heart, and electrifying your career, we’ve got some advice for you. Listen up!
